12 Hours of Sebring - Live on MOTORS TV
Established in 1999 by noted industrialist Don Panoz, the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) is a North American endurance racing championship that complies with Le Mans 24 Hours technical regulations. The series will undergo significant changes in 2014 when it merges with long-time rival GRAND-AM, with the top-tier LMP1 prototypes set to disappear. As such 2013 will be a transition year for the two championships, which will run a joint meeting at Road America in August, while ALMS also adds the new Austin Grand Prix circuit in place of its Mid-Ohio round. All 10 events will be broadcast live or delayed-as-live on the High Speed Television Channel.
The campaign begins in style with the most prestigious event on the calendar, the 12 Hours of Sebring, which takes place at the 5.95km, 17-turn Florida venue. In what will likely be its last appearance at the race for some time, the factory Audi team are again favourites to secure overall victory and will field a pair of its R18 e-tron quattros in pursuit of a farewell triumph. Its driver line-up enjoys an impressive haul of silverware, with a total of 14 victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours and 10 at the 12 Hours of Sebring between them. Six of the American wins belong to sportscar legend Tom Kristensen, the most successful driver in Sebring history.
Round 1, Sebring: Saturday 16 March from 15.30 to 17.30 and 20.00 to 04.00 (CET).
